Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire in Montreal's West Island is a tiny sleepy town. It is a part of the island that has been called "the West Island." West Island has a lot of different communities. People who have never known about it may mistake it for a separate island facing west. Amanda Brugel was born there, but her time was not long in the city. Brugel grew-up in Courtice near Oshawa in Ontario. She aspired to be a professional dancer, but because of a huge increase in her height, she outgrew all of her dancing partners. In an article published in the Toronto Star she admitted In heels, I'm 6'1 inch. As I got bigger than my male partners, I quit. Many former dancers turn into acting. In the instance of Brugel,, it was a suggestion by her drama teacher. She was recommended by a teacher to get a role for school's annual production. She auditioned and was eventually cast as the role of the main character of Anne of Green Gables. It was the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship led her to York University, where she studied Theatre and received the Bachelors in Fine Arts in 2000. For the last twenty years, Brugel's work been seen on the small and large screen. She gained the most fame when she was offered the character of Rita in the award-winning television show The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was the only Canadian part of the cast during the season 1 of the series and only appeared on occasion.
